Auto Accident Injuries
Motor Vehicle Accidents
We have specialized in the treatment of MVA injuries for over 10 years. Whiplash is the most common injury sustained in MVA's, usually when the vehicle has been struck from behind. Whiplash can be caused by any motion similar to a rear-end collision, such as skiing accidents, roler coaster rides, or from being hit, kicked or shaken.
Symptoms
Symptoms reported include: pain stiffness in neck and back, referred or radiating pain to the shoulders, arms or legs. Headache and sensory disturbance (such as pins and needles) to the arms and legs are also common. Symptoms can appear immediately after the injury, but often don't appear until days later.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made through a patient history, head, neck and back examination, X-rays to rule out bone fractures and may involve the use of MRI to determine if there are further injuries.
Treatment
A combination of physiotherapy modalities, manipulations, mobilizations and range of motion exercises are typically recommended. Generally a cervical collar should not be used for longer than 72 hours as it may lead to a state of hypo-mobility of the spine.
Attorney Referrals
In many cases an attorney may be needed to help in your dealings with the other person's insurance company. If such is the case, we assist our patients in finding an attorney who specializes in this type of law. We have many years experience with PI attorneys and will recommend that is best suited for your particular case.
